It’s our 110th birthday!
On December 3, 1906, The Matthews Opera House had its very first performance. To celebrate our 110th birthday, The Matthews will have something for everyone on Saturday, Dec. 3. All events during the day and evening are free and open to the public. What makes it even more fun, is that our birthday is on the same day as the Spearfish Holidazzle Parade of Lights and Christmas Stroll.
SHOP. MINGLE. FREE GIFT WRAPPING – 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
10am-7pm. The Art Gallery will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Many of our Black Hills artists have brought in special holiday gift items for every budget. Many new, lower priced items will be featured. We will have free gift wrapping during the holiday season. Bring the entire family and kick off the holiday season in style.
CRAFT PROJECTS FOR ALL AGES – 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
11am-4pm. The Art Gallery will be busy conducting holiday arts and craft projects for all ages. While busy making art projects, we will have some hot apple cider available to all. This is a free event.
HO. HO. HO. Santa is here 1-4 p.m.
1-4 p.m. Kids and adults alike can share their Christmas wishes with Santa from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Santa will be on hand in the afternoon to meet and listen to children’s Christmas wishes in the Opera House Lobby from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
Hot cider and candy canes will be on hand. Visitors are encouraged to bring their cameras. The event is free and open to the public.
SING ALONG WITH GORDY & DARLA – 7:30 p.m.
Doors open at 7pm. Gordy Pratt and Darla Drew Lerdal (of DD and the Fayrohs) will be on stage in the Opera House theater, starting right after the Holidazzle Parade of Lights. Enjoy singing holiday tunes with Gordy, your neighbors, friends, and family. While singing, enjoy a piece of birthday cake.
This is a free event and open to the public.
NOTE: We have to limit the audience to 300 people. Once that count has been reached at the door, we cannot allow anyone else in the door.
