As a part of the Big Read Spearfish, The Matthews, in partnership with Crow Peak Brewing Company, is hosting a 1920s-themed speakeasy night.

Feb. 26, Free (with password)

This event will take place at Crow Peak Brewery, 6-8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26. It is free and open to the public. Patrons only need the secret password to gain admission.  Crow Peak Brewing Company is located at 125 W. Highway 14, Spearfish, SD.

“We are excited to be partnering with the Matthews Opera House for a night of fundraising and promotion for the Big Read,” comments Josh Fritz of Crow Peak Brewing. Crow Peak Brewing will be donating a percentage of the proceeds during the event to the Matthews Opera House for community arts outreach.

“We are happy to be working with Crow Peak Brewing on this fun event. It is great when local businesses support and get involved with the arts,” says Ava Sauter, community outreach manager for The Matthews.

Patrons can win prizes for the best costumes.  Come in 1920s attire or in detective costumes.  Since the Big Read Spearfish is all about “The Maltese Falcon,” dressing up as private eyes or detectives will be part of the evening.

Live Music

The Darning Hearts, a duo out of Rapid City, will be performing their unique mix of Appalachian and 1920s and 30s swing music during the event. Period appropriate attire is encouraged and awards will be given for best costumes.
