A Big Read Event
This event features four local illustrative artists to celebrate the vast artistic format of graphic novels. The show runs Feb. 5-Feb 27.
While the show reception opening will be down in the gallery from 5-7 p.m., we will also be having a sketching event up in the opera house. The sketching portion of the event is called, “Graphic Novel Live.” We will have 2 to 3 models up on the stage. People may walk through and do their sketches. There will be a bar set up both upstairs and downstairs for this event. FREE and open to the public
The Graphic Novel Show will feature a number of different artists and will illustrate the vast medium that is graphic novel illustration. This will have a detective mystery theme although not all art pieces will be detective pieces.
What are Graphic Novels?
“Graphic Novel” is a format, not a genre. Graphic novels can be fiction, non-fiction, history, fantasy, or anything in-between. Graphic novels are similar to comic books because they use sequential art to tell a story. Unlike comic books, graphic novels are generally stand-alone stories with more complex plots. Collections of short stories that have been previously published as individual comic books are also considered graphic novels.
