In the spirit of “Loving Vincent” month at The Matthews, artist Jayne Rose will instruct an intermediate acrylic painting class from 6-9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10 in the Matthews art gallery. The maximum size of the class is eight people. Cost is $65 per person. For ages 16 and up.
Registration is required and ends at end of day, Tuesday, Nov. 7. Details and online registration follows.
The class will paint Crow Peak Mountain in the Post-Impressionism style of van Gogh. It will be a fun way to paint in loose, flowing colors. The Matthews provides each person a 16″ x 20″ stretched canvas. We are going to make every effort to finish the painting in an evening.
As this is an intermediate class, we ask that participants have some knowledge of drawing and paint mixing. Other than that, we’re good to go.
What you need
16″ x 20″ canvas (provided)
Water containers (provided)
Palettes (provided) – If you want to bring your own, feel free to do so!
Acrylic paints (suggested colors): Jayne painted her work for this class in very basic colors so the class could find them easily. The colors listed below are what she used. Notice she didn’t use black. You may bring black, but if used it is minimal.
- Cad Red Medium
- Ultramarine Blue
- Cad Yellow
- Sap Green (darker green)
- Lighter green (whatever you have that is more of a yellow-green hue)
- Dioxazine purple (Got a favorite purple? Bring it!)
The Matthews will have some of these colors on hand in case you run low on a particular color.
Brushes: this list will come. The artist used fairly large brushes for the most part, with a medium brush for adding detail and near the end, a small brush for the little detail. The bigger the brushes, faster you paint!
The Matthews will have a few brushes on hand for you to borrow for the evening. But please, bring your favorite brushes!
Paint smock. If you’re like Jayne, the paint will fly!
Beverages – It is Friday night, after all
The Matthews will have a cash bar set up in the gallery with wine, beer, pop, and water. BRING CASH. We will check I.D.s, so don’t leave it at home.
Ages 16 years and up.
