During the month of September, The Matthews will be hosting a photography exhibit, “A Moment in Time,” featuring several local Black Hills photographers. The show will run September 4-30 and be open to the public during the gallery’s business hours, Mon. – Sat., 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Cheryl is South Dakota born, and a SD resident most of her life. As a resident artist in the South Dakota Arts Council, Artists in Schools and Communities program from several years,. she has enjoyed residencies across this entire beautiful state. On her first wedding anniversary Mary LaHood received a cone of cotton yarn from her husband. Five days later, on Christmas morning, he surprised her with her first loom which had traveled by ship with a young woman emigrating from Norway some eighty years earlier.
Jo has enjoyed sculpting since she was a youth. In this series of bronzes, she explores the everyday emotions of women’s experiences. Her faces have always had an ethnic quality to them as she is drawn to the strength and spiritual power of indigenous peoples.
