“Greater Tuna” brings another great comedy to The Matthews in May, 2017

The Matthews community theater will be the place to be for getting your giggle on.

What do Arles Struvie, Thurston Wheelis, Aunt Pearl, Petey Fisk, Phineas Blye, and Rev. Spikes have in common? In this hilarious send-up of small town morals and mores, they are all among the upstanding citizens of Tuna, Texas’ third smallest town.  This concert is the final event in our 2016-17 Subscription Series Season.  The play runs May 4-7, 2017. The Thursday-Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday performance is at 2:00 p.m.

Peter Mawanga brings modern African sound to The Matthews, April 20, 2017

Fusing the rock outfit of drums-bass-guitar with the traditional sounds of Malawi’s marimba, thumb piano, and percussion, Peter Mawanga & The Amaravi Movement Afro-vibes is a modern African sound that is intrinsically Malawian. He has the premier band in Malawi, Africa to boot who has been making headlines ever since their debut release “Paphiri ndi Padambo” in 2009.

This concert is the fifth event in our 2016-17 Subscription Series Season.  Peter Mawanga appears at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Apr. 20, 2017 on our stage. UPDATE: Jam Session for local musicians with Peter Mawanga has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 18. Scroll down for info.

AJ Croce Live Concert kicks off 2016-17 Season on Sept. 23

The Season Kicks Off with great Music!

AT 7:30 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 23, our season begins with a concert — and what a concert it will be!

Singer-songwriter A.J. Croce is a multi-instrumentalist roots-rock artist, known for his boogie-woogie piano playing reminiscent of Dr. John. AJ has recorded eight studio albums for both major and indie labels in 23 years as a professional artist and musician. His music incorporates pop, blues, folk, and jazz, and has charted on seven radio charts including Top 40.

Ranky Tanky Live Concert brings Gullah to The Matthews in Nov.

At 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, The Matthews welcomes back guitarist Clay Ross (of Matuto), with Ranky Tanky and band members Quiana Parler (vocals), Quentin Baxter (drums), Kevin Hamilton (bass), and Charlton Singleton (trumpet & vocals).  This is the second event of our 2016-17 Subscription Series.  Individual tickets are $25 adults, $10 youth & BHSU students.

Newfoundland artists – The Ennis Sisters – LIVE in January

The Matthews is honored to have The Ennis Sisters perform live on its stage at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017. 

The Ennis Sisters are world-renowned performers whose inspirational sibling harmonies, humorous recitations, Irish step dancing and engaging stage rapport lift spirits and warm hearts. Stories and songs invoke their home in Newfoundland. This is the third event of our 2016-17 Subscription Series season.
