As a part of the Big Read Spearfish, The Matthews, in partnership with Crow Peak Brewing Company, is hosting a 1920s-themed speakeasy night.
Cosplayers unite and show-off your favorite detective character costumes. Well, detective costumes are preferred, but if you have a favorite outfit for cosplay, by all means…wear it!
The Matthews Opera House and Art Center is hosting a Detective Cosplay Game Night, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 12, in the opera house. This event is part of The Big Read Spearfish and is free and open to anyone age 15 and up.
Black Hills State University (BHSU) continues The Big Read celebration of Dashiell Hammett’s, “The Maltese Falcon,” by hosting their American film noir series, Feb. 4, 11, and 25, Thursdays, at 6:30 p.m. each evening. The film series is free and open to the public.
They will be held at BHSU, 1200 University St., Spearfish, in the Jonas Science Building, room 305.

Saturday, Jan. 9 was a good day. That was the day that we kicked off The Big Read Spearfish. The weather forecast for the day was for single digits. A low turnout was a real issue.
