The Matthews Opera House & Arts Center announces openings for new artists of the Black Hills in the South Dakota/Wyoming region to be juried into the non-profit art gallery. Artist applications are due before 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11. Applications can be found at www.matthewsopera.com/cfa and should be submitted via email to Heather Evans, gallery manager, at [email protected]
The Matthews Opera House and Arts Center will begin exhibiting the work of contracted artists on May 25. This marks the return to regular operations after several months of the NEA Big Read and the Community Art Show.
“We are excited to welcome back the work of our contracted artists to the gallery” said Heather Evans, gallery manager. “This annual call is so exciting for us because it brings in both new and familiar artists from the Black Hills. It’s always so inspiring to see the incredible talent that exists in this area.”
For application purposes, the Black Hills area includes anywhere within approximately one hundred miles of the Black Hills in South Dakota and Wyoming. This call is open to new artists as well as artists who have previously been contracted with The Matthews.
Through this call, The Matthews hopes to find forty to fifty artists whose work will be showcased. During the jurying process, the Gallery Committee will be assessing applicants based on the quality of work submitted and the needs of the gallery in terms of aesthetic balance and diversity.
