AUDITIONS “Return to the Forbidden Planet” (musical) Nov. 15 & 16
Director Joanna Mechaley is conducting auditions from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday-Friday, Nov. 15-16, in The Matthews theater.
Short synopsis
Written by Bob Carlton, “Return to the Forbidden Planet” is inspired by Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” This jukebox musical is packed with rock ‘n’ roll classics such as Heard it Through the Grapevine, Young Girl, Good Vibrations, and Gloria.
Fasten your seatbelts, return your tray tables to the upright position, and prepare to blast off!

Audition requirements and notes
Audition pieces will be available in The Matthews art gallery beginning Oct. 30.
Vocal pieces will be available as well. Singing is required for all roles. Songs include a number of re-imagined musical hits from the 1960s including Great Balls of Fire, Good Vibrations, Why Must I be a Teenager in Love?, Young Girl, Gloria, Only the Lonely, Tell Her, and Shake, Rattle and Roll, to name a few.
Casting
Parts are available for a range of ages from high school to mid-50’s.

CAPTAIN TEMPEST – A Starship Captain. Superhero type, square-jawed. – Tenor
SCIENCE OFFICER – A woman with a mysterious past: She’s GLORIA-Prospero’s wife – Mezzo-Soprano
NEWSCASTER – Narrator
NAVIGATIONAL OFFICER – Prone to panic during intergalactic emergencies. – Alto
COOKIE – The ship’s cook and hopeless romantic who falls in love with Miranda– Tenor
