As everyone is well aware, the recent COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way many of us live daily. Here at the Matthews, we have been following the progression of this virus and our priority is to make decisions based on the health and wellbeing of our staff and patrons.
Because of the recent advice of the CDC to limit public gatherings, we have made the following cancelations and changes to our event schedule:
- Doolin’ has been postponed to September 2.
- Chris Huisenga LIVE at the Matthews postponed to TBD
- Community Theater Comedy “Stepping Out” postponed to April 16 – 28 & April 23 – 25, 2021
- Froelich Young Actors Guild 2020 is canceled
At this moment our gallery is still open, but effective Thursday, March 26, we will be shortening our hours to 10a.m. – 2 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday. We are also taking additional precautions to keep visitors safe. We are regularly wiping down all door knobs, have spaced out the artwork, and have hand sanitizer available for anyone from the public to use. We will allow no more than 10 visitors in the gallery at one time. Visitors are still asked to practice their own caution when visiting the gallery. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments according to city, state and federal guidelines.
Regarding Festival in the Park, we are still moving forward with planning and are not making any decisions about cancelation at this time. We also have waived any late fees for vendors who apply. We plan to make a decision about the Festival in the Park in mid-May.
It is hard to know the long-term impacts COVID-19 will have on our country, our community, and our organization. What we do know is that art is more important than ever! Creative expression has helped humanity cope with some of the darkest points in history. While we may not be able to hold physical events, we are working on digital solutions to sharing the art that is still being created in our area. We look forward to revealing these projects over the coming days.
Finally, a heartfelt THANK YOU to all of you for your support. We couldn’t do what we do with you. And as we enter into this time of uncertainty, we ask that if you are at all able, to please consider donating so that we can ensure the Matthews is able to move into the post-COVID era with the resources necessary to continue promoting the arts throughout the Northern Hills area. Donations can be made at www.matthewsopera.com/support.
We hope you all stay safe and healthy. Love and comfort to you and your families.
