The Matthews Opera House is a participating theater for the 2022 Black Hills Film Festival which features South Dakota-produced films and films shot on location in South Dakota, among other national and international entries.
On Tuesday, May 31 22, at 7:00 pm the Matthews will host an evening session consisting of three films. All audience members are also invited to a free reception at 6:00 pm in the Matthews Opera House lobby prior to the showing of the first film. Light refreshments will be served.
Tickets for this event are $10. Ticket price includes both films. General admission seating. A cash bar and popcorn will be available for sale throughout the films.

Into the Circle

Into the Circle tells the story of a resilient Indigenous family, their journey through life-altering tragedy, and the community that helped them reconnect with their Lakota heritage.
The Sound of Us

South Dakota, Short Documentary
Runtime: 13 minutes
The mascot of Black Hills State University in Spearfish is “The Yellow Jacket.” South Dakota’s Artist Laureate, Dale Lamphere created this sculpture for installation on the BHSU campus to represent school spirit. Local filmmaker Randal Iverson followed Dale through the process to create and install this unique piece.
