Workshop: Origami
Bring that coffee shop conversation and your coffee friends – to RE:Create and see what happens when you explore creativity together.
In this session, Justin Fossum instructs on creating origami. This is a FREE event presented by ArtCentral Spearfish. All materials are included. Recommended for ages 10 and up. Sign-ups are requested to make sure we have enough materials.
Justin Fossum shares his passion for origami and helps participants create their own origami work of art. Participants will learn about the history of origami, see what is possible with paper folding today, and then begin folding their own origami project — an origami butterfly designed by Akira Yoshizawa, the father of modern origami.
The workshop takes place in the ArtCentral RE:create makerspace in The Matthews’ art gallery.
Sign-up is preferred
Even though the workshop is free, sign-up would be preferred in order for the instructor to be prepared with the correct amount of materials and supplies. Either call the art gallery at 605.642.7973 ext.0 — OR email [email protected] to add your name to the class list. If emailing, be sure to provide a phone number.
About Justin
Justin Fossum is a local middle school student and origami enthusiast. Justin began folding paper when he was nine years old and has been hooked ever since. He is self taught from a large origami library that he has accumulated over the years. He has also attended national origami conventions where he has met and learned from many of the top origami artists in the country. Some may remember the three dimensional hanging origami falcon structure that Justin made for the Big Read at the Matthews Opera House in 2016. Justin is passionate about origami and looks forward to sharing his love of the art with others.
