Workshop: Pocket Notebooks

Bring that coffee shop conversation and your coffee friends – to RE:Create and see what happens when you explore creativity together.

In this session, Elizabeth Freer instructs on pocket notebooks from found objects.  This is a FREE event presented by ArtCentral Spearfish. All materials are included. Recommended for ages 15 and up. Sign-ups are requested to make sure we have enough materials.

Using magazine covers, paperboard boxes, found and recycled paper, colorful waxed embroidery floss for stitching, and other materials available in RE:Create, we will create new mini-notebooks out of recycled materials.

There will be lots of flexibility for how you construct and make your mini-notebook. You might make a notebook with multiple or single book signatures, perhaps you’ll want to sew (or glue) a fabric cover, add a button closure, include a pocket, or make a mini-pocket sized notebook. Or, maybe you will want to practice your decoupage skills and make a collage cover.

Feel free to bring an old partially used notebook if you want to harvest the paper for your new notebook, or bring paper you have on hand from another project. We will use basic skills and techniques learned during the recent Bookmaking workshop (copies of handouts available), along with a few other project ideas.

The workshop takes place in the ArtCentral RE:create makerspace in The Matthews’ art gallery.

Sign-up is preferred

Even though the workshop is free, sign-up would be preferred in order for the instructor to be prepared with the correct amount of materials and supplies. Either call the art gallery at 605.642.7973 ext.0 — OR email [email protected] to add your name to the class list. If emailing, be sure to provide a phone number.
