Bellman Brown Bag

Designed to begin and end within the lunch hour, patrons are invited to bring their lunch, if desired, or simply enjoy an hour of learning and entertainment.  This is an opportunity to gain insight into themes that touch our daily lives.

When Spearfish Public Schools were faced with significant financial difficulties, the Spearfish Foundation for Public Education was founded in 2001 to supplement funding for programs lost due to budget cuts and to seek to make our public schools the best they could be.

Please join us to hear how SFPE is advancing its goals to provide resources to educators, promote creative and innovative teaching and increase the visibility and value of public education while building community awareness of the Spearfish Foundation for Public Education.lives and our community.

Theatre on the Run

The second annual Theatre on the Run event will be held at 6pm on Saturday, September 7, 2013.  Theatre on the Run is a progressive theatre event at five different locations, each hosting a 15-20 minute theatre production.  Tickets are $25 each and must be purchased in advance.

Presenter:  Richard Hicks, professor emeritus of BHSU

Richard Hicks presents his private collection of Ukiyo-e art, which means “pictures of the floating world.” This form of art represents Japanese life from the pre-modern, pre-industrialized Japan.

SD Festival of Books

Local event coordinators will have an exhibit booth throughout the SD Festival of Books.  Information about The Big Read, event programming, and “The Namesake” book distribution will be available.

Kick-off Reception for Subscription Series

jackpeterCome celebrate the kick-off of the 2013-2014 Subscription Series season.  We will be having complimentary sparkling wine, appetizers, and a cash wine & beer bar in our Art Gallery.  Come mingle with your friends, families, and neighbors while enjoying the beautiful original art of our 40 gallery artists.  Lynn Trefzger will be making an appearance before her show debuts (at 7:30pm) upstairs in the Opera House.  Be sure to stop by and meet Lynn.

“What’s in a Name?” Art Project

nameartAs part of The Big Read, we are doing a free community art project every month starting in October.

This month’s art project is called “What’s in a Name?”  We will be creating name banners to hang throughout the arts center.  FREE, open to the public, for all ages.
