Learn the Cyanotype photography process | Jan. 6

Cyantotype, an alternative process photography class, is offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, in the Fireplace Room at The Matthews (second floor). Seth Harwood of Spearfish is the instructor. The class is offered to persons 16 years and up. The class costs $40 per person (plus tax). All materials are provided. Registrations must be confirmed by Dec. 31.

On Halloween, we have permission to be creative, innovative, and even afraid. We reward the efforts that are put into decorating ourselves in costumes and our homes or offices with the spooky and delightful. It is a season where we face and taunt our own fears, real and imagined, and know that we are supposed to be afraid.
We’re free on Halloween to be whatever we want; there is no judgment of who you want to be. It only has to be right for one day. Halloween is a day where we are free to be creative, to invent, and experiment. Is participation what we savor most on Halloween?

24th Holiday High Tea | A few tickets left!

One of our oldest and favorite annual events is just around the corner.  The Holiday High Tea is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9, 1:00-2:30 p.m. in The Matthew’s Theater.  Tickets go ON SALE NOV. 1.  They will be available during business hours in the gallery, by phone (605.642.7973), or online. Nicola Meeks

Born and raised in England and Wales, Nicola moved to the United States in 1989, settling in the Black Hills to raise her family. Her acrylic hand-pulled prints are made using a homemade “Gelli plate.”

Intermediate Painting Class | Nov. 10 | van Gogh month

In the spirit of “Loving Vincent” month at The Matthews, artist Jayne Rose will instruct an intermediate acrylic painting class from 6-9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10 in the Matthews art gallery. The maximum size of the class is eight people. Cost is $65 per person. For ages 16 and up.
