The Matthews Opera House is cultural gem embodying the elegance of its historic past and the modern amenities of a restored theatre. Built in 1906, this “crown jewel” of Spearfish continues to reside in its original location on Main Street having been kept intact for a full century. The 283-seat historic theatre includes 168 seats on the main floor and 115 in the balcony. A stunning ceiling dome bestows great height to the theatre space with a classical proscenium framing the stage. On the proscenium arch directly above the stage is found an original, untouched mural of Williams Shakespeare surrounded by actors Edwin Booth and Joseph Jefferson. Patrons enjoy abundant light in the chandelier-adorned theatre lobby with large windows providing a view of Main Street Spearfish.
Below is the seating chart we use for most performances. Our theater seating is fully customizable and can be changed for special occasions.
