Youth ages 8-18 encouraged to audition for “Mirror Mirror”

The Matthews Opera House & Arts Center’s Froelich Young Actors Guild is excited to announce auditions for the virtual children’s theater production of “Mirror Mirror: A Virtual Fractured Fairy Tale” by Brian D. Taylor. Auditions for this production will take place via Zoom on February 8 & 9 at 5 p.m. The performance will also be virtual and is scheduled for March 12 at 7:00 pm.

Fourteen to twenty-nine actors are needed ages 8-18. In order to audition, actors are asked to complete an online audition form prior to their audition and join the Zoom link for the audition date of their choice during the scheduled time. Links to the form and Zoom meetings can be found at

This production of “Mirror Mirror” is directed by Gabriella Hertz, a BHSU student majoring in Psychology and Speech/Communication with an emphasis in theatre. She said she is excited to bring this virtual opportunity to the students of Spearfish.

“I know a lot of students have had to miss out on theatre opportunities this year due to COVID-19,” Hertz said. “I’m excited to work with the Matthews Opera House to provide this virtual opportunity for young actors while also being able to keep everyone safe.”

“Mirror Mirror” tells the story of the Evil Queen who wishes to be fairest of them all.  But when her Magic Mirror informs her that it is Snow White who is most fair, the queen is livid!  When asked how to find the princess, her mirror mentions that Snow White has run away.  The Evil Queen summons great magic in hopes of finding Snow White — she can now look through all mirrors throughout the kingdom.  But there’s a catch…the magic also allows everyone else’s mirrors to show them what they most wish to see.

“It’s a really fun show and being virtual it provides a really unique theatrical experience for both the actors and the audience,” Hertz added. “We hope lots of area kids decide to get involved!”
