The 2018-19 Subscription Season

It’s starting – another season of fantastic musical performances and outstanding community theater in our beautiful Matthews Opera House. Will you be there to join in the fun?  The  Subscription Series Patron will enjoy six exceptional performances at an unbeatable value! As a season subscriber, you have assured the SAME reserved seat(s) for each performance.  

Your seat(s) for any community theater multi-day event is automatically reserved for the Friday of the performance run. You may exchange dates at the time you sign up for the season or later on.


The Subscription Series costs only $125 per adult and $60 for youth (18 and under) and BHSU student.  What a wonderful way to share six evenings out with your entire family! ADDED BONUS: As a Subscription Series patron, you are eligible for adult ticket discounts on select non-series events. As non-subscription events are added to our schedule, subscriber discounts will automatically take place at the time of purchase.

Individual tickets go on sale Sept. 1.

Mighty Brothers Concert

Our season kicks off with musicians from New Orleans. Mighty Brother is a New Orleans-based indie rock band captained by songwriters Jake Ryan and Nick Huster and crewed by a dynamic saxophonist and airtight rhythm section. Since 2014, the group has charmed audiences with their infectious brand of songwriting, soaring harmonies, meticulous arrangements, and full sail quest for collaboration.

Christian Howes Quartet in Southern Exposure

OCTOBER 26, 2018 (Friday)
Jazz violinist, Christian Howes, brings his quartet to Spearfish with Southern Exposure. This event combines modern jazz with Latin musical influences from Argentina, Spain, and Cuba, and Brazil. Adding the accordion as another melodic instrument, Southern Exposure is a unique performance full of energy, master musicianship, and passion.

All the World’s a Song with Daniel Kelly

JANUARY 18, 2019 (Friday)

Award-winning composer and pianist, Daniel Kelly brilliantly reinterprets texts from Shakespeare’s most beloved plays with powerhouse jazz vocalists (Frederick Johnson and Sarah Elizabeth Charles). Excerpts from Shakespeare’s masterpieces are transformed into songs that delight audiences.

Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra Concert

MARCH 7, 2019  (Thursday)

The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra (PRSO)recreates the sounds of the concert stage, the dance halls, and the theater – ragtime, dance music, theater selections, and silent film accompaniment, all performed off the original musical scores.

“Twelfth Night” by National Players

MARCH 28, 2019 (Thursday)

Now touring for its 70th consecutive year, National Players is a unique theater ensemble that brings innovative productions to communities across the United States. One of Shakespeare’s most delightful plays, Twelfth Night is a classic tale of reckless revenge, mistaken identity, and mismatched lovers. All audiences will enjoy the National Players’ fresh take on this spirited story.

“The Curious Savage” Community Theater

APRIL 25-28, 2019 | Thurs.-Saturday at 7:30 p.m. | Sunday at 2 p.m.

The entertaining comedy, “The Curious Savage” is the story of an elderly widow, Mrs. Savage, whose husband left her $10 million dollars. She intends to give the entire fortune away to people who wish to pursue their dreams, but her stepchildren strongly object. To stop this, they commit her to a sanatorium where the gentle residents become her “new family.”

Note: SEASON TICKET SEATS are for Friday, Apr. 26. If you would like another date, please contact us at 605.642.7973 and we will move your reservation to the preferred date.  However, if your assigned seats have already been sold, you will be given another seat location.
